Paris or Prague? The Votes Are In!
Paris wins hands down if you are looking for love; Paris breaks
are ideal for couples on their honeymoon. From stunning bars to beautiful night life and beautiful people, Paris has it all. A moonlit
stroll through the canal region is recommended and then off to a bar for a night tasting delicious Parisian wine.
Paris is undoubtedly the city of romance; the Eiffel tower at night, lit up like a beautiful Christmas tree, is one of the most popular
tourist spots. In the day time you can climb the tower, although it is a bit of a trek so you might want to opt for an easy way to spend
your day; perhaps on the grass outside with picnic basket in hand.
The world-famous Louvre is also a must see for any visitors to this great city. You can spend days, and I mean days, in this enormous art
museum. The highlights include the Mona Lisa and Van Gogh famous sunflower. Get there early to avoid huge queues.
The Sacre Coeur is open daily from 06:00 to 22:00. Work on this gigantic mock Romano-Byzantine edifice began in 1877 and has managed to maintain
its beauty. Commissioned after the nation's defeat by Prussia in 1870 and built from public subscription, it was finally completed in 1914 with
an interior of lavish mosaic. It is definitely worth spending a day at this historic monument.
While Paris wins for romance, Prague city breaks also
have a lot to offer in terms of art; meaning it is a close call between the two if you are interested in exploring the city's culture.
Prague has its own famous National Museum in Wnceslas Square, an impressive building. The city centre also homes a famous gallery and national
theatre. The people of Prague love art in all its forms; music, visual arts and drama. If you want to explore all these things then Prague might
just clip ahead of Paris.
For meat lovers, Prague is also on to a win. The city is famous for its 'spis' (like a shish kebab) and superb meat medallions. The most popular
meats in Prague are pork and beef but there is also lamb, chicken and turkey on the menu in most restaurants.
However, both Paris and Prague are at a tie when it comes to sweet treats with both cities garnering fame for their delicious desserts. Parisian
dining is world class and Czechs love sweets, you will sample them in most of their main dishes as well.
What's more, if you are looking to go on a diet, Paris and Prague are the best not the places to go. French food is famously rich and indulgent
with delicious, doused in creamy sauces and lots and lots of cheese. Prague is also famous for not having salads on the menu, Czech foodies
tend to favour the rich and creamy variety.
All in all, these two cities have very little between their offerings of culture, architecture and incredible night life. However, if you
want to indulge in some romance then perhaps choose Paris, the city of love. Or if you'd prefer to try some incredible meaty dinners, then
opt for Prague. Whatever you choose, you will be choosing well as these are some of the world's most fascinating and vibrant cities. Make 2011
a year to remember.
